It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

Christmas is well and truly here in the Mann household, we’re a little early this year, we normally buy our real Christmas tree on the last weekend of November but sadly this year we’re not having one. We paid a visit to our local garden centre which made us feel all festive and really put us in the Christmas mood.

This year we have baby Daisy and because she’s just started crawling we thought it would be safer to go with an artificial tree this year, so no needle dropping this year. Daisy’s at the stage where everything goes in the mouth and I really don’t want her putting tree needles in her mouth and I don’t think a real tree would make it to the 25th of December with the way she’s bashing about in her baby walker!

Our advent calendars are hanging up ready and the boys are super excited to start opening those doors! We’re super excited for the 1st of December.

Today is the 26th November and today marks the 4 week countdown to Christmas, so 4 weeks today it will be Christmas eve! Yikes, I’m so excited! I’ve brought quite a few Christmassy bits over the last couple of weeks, I probably go a little over the top but I always strive to make the perfect Christmas and to make it extra special and magical for the little ones, my excuse is that it only happens once a year.

We popped to our local B&Q store to look at Christmas trees, I can’t believe how expensive they can be, there was a really beautiful one that was really realistic looking but was around £120 and we didn’t want to spend that much on a tree when it’s only going to be for this Christmas, next year I think we’ll return back to our normal tradition of buying a real tree. James picked the tree and settled on a tree for a bargain of £30 (he’s a bit tight when it comes to parting with his money!). I have this love/hate relationship with the tree but it will do. James really wanted a white tree but I had to reign him in a bit! White is really not my cup of tea, give me a traditional green one any day.

I’ve finally picked out a frame for my completed snowman cross stitch and I’m so proud of how it looks now it’s finished and framed, it was certainly worth the effort stitching it. The white wooden square frame was a bargain £4 from Wilko.

Xmas 2

Debenhams had a sale on recently so I treated myself to a Christmas throw which is the Red Fair Isle print fleece throw and was £19.60 in their sale. I liked the idea of jazzing up my old boring sofa in the kitchen and turning into a cozy Christmas sofa, we now have a lovely cozy corner right by the Christmas tree. I’ve also brought some Christmas cushion covers off Ebay and Amazon for the sofa, I can’t believe how cheap they are to buy. I decided to just buy just the covers and I’ll put them over some old cushions to jazz them up for Christmas. (I’ll post pictures when my cushions have arrived).

A few days ago something magical happened over night! The boys woke to find 2 little elves sitting in the Christmas tree sent from The North Pole. A week ago we finalized the boys letters to Santa and Alfie asked Santa in his letter if we could adopt an elf for Christmas (I think this tradition started last year in his class at school). We’ve still got to fill out the adoption details online but we’ve adopted Timmy and Donkey Who (Don’t ask!) this was Charlie’s choice. The elves sit and watch everything that’s going on and report back to Santa every night when the boys have gone to bed and return back each morning. There’s certainly been a bit of mischief with this pair of elves!

These arrived yesterday, I’ve brought matching tops for the boys and also one for James, these were from Next and they have a lovely Christmas family range where you can all be matching. I’ve not told James yet, I’m going to surprise him on Christmas day when I present this to him, I just thought it would add to the fun to have all the boys matching. Thank you Next for thinking outside the box and creating this fantastic range.

This year I’m going to make up some Christmas Eve boxes, I know it’s an American tradition but I love the idea of presenting the kids with a box of treats on Christmas eve, I’m going to do a separate blog post when I’ve done them and I’ll share with you what’s going inside each one. I’m thinking along the lines of new Christmas Jammies, some Christmas chocolate bits like chocolate coins, some Christmas books and maybe some hot chocolate and marshmallows for a Christmas eve treat. I’d love to know if anyone else does this and what you put in your boxes.

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a festive Costa cup! I got really excited when I saw these, hot chocolate and marshmallows at this time of year are just the best. Me and my sis had a cheeky Costa and it was bliss, this has become our guilty secret.

Thanks for reading and we’ll be back soon with some more festive fun xxxxx

My Baby Girl is 10 Month’s Old!

Little Daisy is 10 months old. Can you believe it? It feels like just yesterday when I was pushing her into the world and to our shock and surprise she entered the world feet first!

In less than two months, I will have a one year old girl. Can I still call Daisy a baby when she turns one? Please tell me yes! I’m not ready to stop calling her my baby girl and kind of wonder if I will ever truly be ready?

Daisy’s strength has improved so much this past month, she can bomb around the kitchen in her baby walker, she can open cupboard doors and she just loves practicing walking with you, she’s learnt how to put one foot in front of the other and just looks so proud. I can’t wait to take her shoe shopping soon and get her measured for her 1st pair of shoes.

Movement wise Daisy still isn’t crawling properly but does this funny kind of army crawl and certainly knows how to get to her target. We also have a little bum shuffler, I’m amazed how fast this lady can move just on her little bottom! Who needs crawling hey? This little bunny has rejected crawling and has found her own technique to be independent, some days I think about attaching cloths to her bum so she can clean the floor at the same time! We’ve also had lots of pulling up on furniture, Daisy’s trying to stand up at every given opportunity.

We learned how to clap a few months ago and Daisy loves clapping so much still!! Pat-a-cake is her absolute favorite game and she just sits there clapping forever and gets the biggest, cheesiest smile. It just melts my heart when I see her interacting with Mr Tumble on the TV or Teletubbies, she sits there clapping and waving and it’s just lovely. Daisy just loves the TV (as do I), she loves any kind of fun theme songs and the Go Jetters are becoming one of her favorite theme songs, she’s so funny to watch sitting there bopping along to the music doing her little dance.

Daisy now weighs 18 pounds and is still in the 30th percentile but she’s growing slowly. She’s just a tiny little thing. Daisy is mainly in 6-9 month clothes. The 9-12 month clothes are still pretty big on her but I’m sure she’ll grow into them soon. Daisy is on 3 meals a day with snacks in between, Daisy loves yogurts, she gets all excited when she sees her little yogurt pot come out of the fridge and will pretty much eat anything that you give her, she’s not shy at trying new foods, I just hope this continues when she’s a little bit older. Daisy still takes one milk feed from me first thing in the morning, drinks juice or water throughout the day (mainly with me being back at work), and has a milk feed just before bed and still wakes 2-3 times throughout the night for comfort feeds. I really need to start dropping these but it’s easier said than done, sometimes you just do these things because they work, controlled crying and sleep training will be hard in our house especially with 2 sleeping boys in the next room.

Daisy now has 7 teeth in total, they just keep on coming! she does look funny now that she’s got little teeth, they just make her even cuter. Her big brothers are always on hand to help brush her little teeth.

Daisy is having just the one nap now which is around 10am and has decided to drop her afternoon naps, by 6pm when I get home from work she’s just absolutely knackered. I got home today and she was flat out and asleep so I never got to spend any time with her, we’ll make up for that tomorrow with me not working Tuesdays and Wednesdays, me and Daisy Doo are going to hit the shops and try and finish our Christmas shopping, I want to be done and dusted by mid November so we can then relax and enjoy the festivities. It also gives me more time to concentrate on planning Daisy’s first birthday party. I’ll share more with you at a later date.

Daisy’s also started saying a few more words, the usual – ‘hi’,’mama’, ‘bye bye’ and I think at one point I heard her say cat. She absolutely loves Felix our cat, she gets so excited when she sees him, she just makes a beeline for him when ever he enters the room.

Life is challenging with 3 children and exhausting, even more so now I’m back at work, there’s just endless washing and cleaning and the house constantly looks like Toys R Us but I wouldn’t have it any other way, there’s never a dull day in our house.  I’m looking forward to a crazy family Christmas but in a way I’m worried about where all the new toys are going to go, I think we definitely need to have a sort out to make way for new stuff.

The Jumperoo is going to have to be put away soon, I’m holding out until the end of November if I can, it’s been a great purchase and was well worth the money but Daisy just doesn’t seem interested anymore, she doesn’t want to be stuck in one place, she wants to be on the move and exploring which makes me sad about the Jumperoo but needs must and the Christmas tree’s got to go somewhere.

I think that’s everything for this month, we’ve got a couple of exciting months to come and I still can’t believe Daisy is going to be one. OMG!

A little Christmas haul

Today is exactly 8 weeks until Christmas, Facebook reminded me that there are only 8 Mondays left until the big day! 56 days to be exact according to my count down to Christmas app.

Christmas preparations are well under way and I definitely have Christmas fever! I can’t wait for all the Halloween stuff to disappear to make way for Christmas, definitely my favorite part of the year.

I’ve been busy getting organized for the festive period and thought I’d share some of my festive buys with you.

First on my list was a box of McVitie’s Victoria biscuits, I picked these up in Asda for £4, my boys love biscuits, who doesn’t love choccy biscuits? I actually picked these up for the promotion that McVitie’s are running to win a family trip to Lapland so a win all round. I just love stock piling for Christmas, there’s just so much yummy food around at this time of year. Whilst also in Asda I spotted tubs of Cadbury roses for £4.00, I always pick these up when I see these at £4.00, this is the best price I’ve seen them and are great to put away for Christmas.

Asda also have advent calendars in store at the moment so I picked some up for the little ones. Daisy’s got Milkybar buttons priced at £2, Charlie asked for George pig which was £2 and Alfie asked if he could have a Lindt chocolate reindeer one (gosh this boys got expensive taste!) priced at a whopping £5. The boys have also got their blox lego calendars which were £8 from Wilkinson’s, we thought we’d try something new with the boys this year so we’re putting them to the test.

I went for a mooch around Debenham’s the other morning, killing a bit of time before work. They have a gorgeous Christmas shop, it’s just magical, I’d definitely recommend going for a look round. I ended up coming out with a few Christmas bits for Daisy. Christmas pyjamas which were £11 in size 9-12 months, they have cute little reindeer feet on them. A lovely little red dress which is a 2 piece set and comes with a long sleeve cream coloured vest top, this was £14.00, I think this might be Daisy’s Christmas day outfit. I also picked up a little Christmas jumper a few weeks ago from Primark which is a sweatshirt style jumper and cost £6.

Today we ventured into Tesco and picked up some more bits for Daisy (gosh she’s one spoilt little lady). We picked up a little Santa hat which I couldn’t resist and this was £2.00 and size 6-12 months and also a little long sleeve vest that says My First Christmas also £2.00, I thought this would look nice with a pair of jeans. Daisy was born on the 29th December so just missed out on Christmas so this year we plan to make a big fuss with it being her first Christmas, she won’t really understand what’s going on but she’ll certainly have memories and photos to look back on.

Santa hat

My last purchases were from Next, I thought I would buy some Christmas gift wrap so I can start wrapping early this year, wrapping seems to be never-ending in our house and I seem to be the only one that does it! Men always seem to take a back seat when it comes to Christmas! I brought rolls that are 4 metre long and come with 4 tags, these are priced at £3.50 each, Next do a 3 for 2 offer on selected gift wrap making the price a bit more reasonable. I brought Tatty teddy because my sister loves Tatty ted, a cute penguin design on silver paper and some Belle (Beauty & the Beast) gift wrap which I couldn’t resist for Daisy, it’s so nice to be able to buy pink things and Disney!

gift wrap

I’ve picked up the boys Christmas pyjamas which I ordered online with Next and I’ve also got Daisy a matching pair too. I can’t wait for Christmas Eve so they can be all snug and matching. I love Next pyjamas, we had some Christmas ones from Next last year but they are a bit on the small side now and Charlie managed to put a hole in his trouser knee!

I absolutely love these ones, they are really soft and look really comfy. Daisy’s got 9-12 months and these were priced at £10, Charlie’s got age 5-6 priced at £12 and Alfie’s got size 7-8 priced at £13.00. I also picked up my PJ’s today from Next but these are a Christmas present to me from my sister, I’ve got the pink cat print ones priced at £25, I just can’t wait to put these on. They have matching ones for your little ones that start from age 3, I really wish Next would design them to start from age 1 upwards so me and Daisy can be matching too.

Hooray for half term!

We are so excited for half term, I know the kids have only been back at school for about 6 weeks but it’s been a whirlwind 6 weeks. The boys started a whole new chapter in their lives and I returned back to work after having 11 months off on maternity leave which was a shock to the system! I’m about 4 weeks in and sometimes it feels like I’ve never been away. I do miss all the free time I had but returning back to work does make you appreciate your time at home and god I so look forward to my days off! Going back 3 days a week from full-time was definitely the right decision.

Charlie started in reception and he’s settled in really well, Alfie started at a new school which is a junior school and he’s settled in really well too. Both boys have had great feedback at parents evening, I can’t believe we’ve had parents evening after only being at school for 6 weeks. We’ve had everything flung at us over these past weeks, we’ve had parents evenings x 2, school photos x 2, trips to pay x 2, the book fair x 2, consent forms to sign x 2, Flu vaccines x 2. Everything is twice as hard now because it’s multiplied by 2 with Charlie starting school, I guess the key to success is to be super organized.

Charlie had a great last day of term, his class earnt themselves a treat for collecting lots of ladybird rewards over the term between them and all got the chance to go to school in their pyjamas. Charlie was super excited and had been looking forward to it all week, everyday he asked if it was Friday yet. Alfie also had a lovely last day too, all of his class had their faces painted as the Stitch head character from the latest Stitch Head book (It’s a book written by Guy Bass that’s recently been released) all the kids got to meet Guy and have their books signed.

I can’t tell you how nice it is to not have to get school uniforms ready, school bags, PE kits and lunch boxes, we can finally breathe for a week, well almost! Charlie brought home the family box on the last day of term so we have a mini project to complete over half term. I have 2 days off over half term and we plan to make the most of those 2 days and go out with the boys and do stuff, I’m also looking forward to some chill out time, I think a few movies and snuggles on the sofa are definitely on the agenda. The boys have a routine dentist appointment and I think it’s time to head to Clarkes to get their feet measured.

We are super organized and have already brought our pumpkins ready for Halloween, I really didn’t want the hassle that we went through last year, getting pumpkins last year was a real struggle due to the pumpkin shortage, there’ll definitely be no fighting over pumpkins this year! The boys are really looking forward to carving them, Asda did us proud and delivered 2 enormous pumpkins.

Whilst we’re on the subject of being super organized I have to confess I’ve already brought the boys advent calendars, a very nice lady who works in our local Wilko’s store recommended the Blox advent calendars, for those of you that have never heard of Blox it’s Wilko’s own brand of Lego and is compatible with normal Lego, I brought the boys some Blox lego recently to try out which was a bargain price of £1 each, there wasn’t much different between Blox and normal Lego so definitely value for money.

The calendars were £8 each and apparently they sell out really fast, I was thinking about getting Playmobil advent calendars this year but do find they are quite expensive. I will let you know what the boys think to them in December when we start our countdown to Christmas.

Only 63 days today until Christmas! I think I’m more exited than the kids! I’ve already been to our local garden centre twice, they have the most amazing Christmas section and it’s just magical, I can’t wait until the end of November so we can really go to town and turn the house into a magical Christmas wonderland, it’s Daisy’s first Christmas so it’s even more special. The boys absolutely dote on her and are super excited for her 1st Christmas. I’ll fill you in more on Daisy when I do her 10 month update but I can tell you we have more teeth!

I was really looking forward to writing a blog post all about our psychic night we had planned for Monday 23rd October but unfortunately our medium cancelled at the last-minute due to a family emergency (I wonder if she saw that one coming!) so we are trying to reschedule for a date in December.

I don’t think there will be a October competition blog post, it’s been a very quiet month on the winning front but that’s normal for comping, I guess you can say wins are like buses, sometimes there are none and then 3 come along at once! I’m looking forward to the advents starting in December. I apologize in advance to all my social media friends for the Christmas competition spam that’s about to come, I will not be offended if you want to unfollow me over the Christmas period or you could always come and join me!

Let There Be Light (Ad)

Today me and Alfie are having a bash at entering a new kind of competition which I stumbled across online, I’ve never entered a competition like this before but here goes! To enter we have to showcase 2 photos as per the competition entry rules, one in natural daylight (below) on the left and one using artificial lighting on the right, you can definitely see the difference with the lighting in the 2 photos.

I roped Alfie in as my little volunteer to pose for me, I did try photographing my 9 month old little Daisy but she wasn’t playing ball and wouldn’t look at the camera so I gave up on that idea. When I told Alfie what the prize would be he was more than happy to help. He wants to be a You Tuber when he’s older, he’s absolutely obsessed with You Tube. We would absolutely love to win £500 worth of vouchers to spend on photography equipment, blogging as become my passion and I think Alfie is following in my footsteps and he’s showing a keen interest in photography too. We’re keeping everything crossed. #LetThereBeLight

Check out Urban Cottage Industries for all your lighting needs, they have some really modern and funky lighting in their range.

9 Month Baby Update

My Baby girl is 9 Month’s Old!Wordpress10

Wow, 9 months old! Where did the time go? Daisy turned 9 months on the 29th of September. I can sadly say that my little baby girl is not going to be a baby for much longer and is almost a toddler. It’s crazy to watch your baby slowly grow into a little person right before your eyes and every time she does something new, I am reminded that my baby girl won’t be a baby forever. I absolutely love watching Daisy grow and explore but sometimes I just want time to SLOW DOWN, even more so with Daisy being our last baby.

Daisy hasn’t yet mastered crawling but can do a strange backwards crawl! She can do a 360 degree turn and a funny little bum shuffle! There have been many a times where we’ve had to rescue her and pull her out from under the sofa. Daisy can sit unaided and loves to roll over, she certainly makes nappy changing a challenge when she’s trying to roll all the time.

At 8 and a half months we introduced Daisy to a baby walker, it took her a while to get the hang of it but can now manoeuver her way around the kitchen. She loves exploring and is now starting to open cupboards, I think it’s time to get the cupboard locks out. We’ve had to confiscate any form of rubber ball, Daisy’s been parking her baby walker right next to the toy boxes, helping herself to the toys that she can grab and then started taking chunks out of the balls with her new little teeth.

We have more teeth! 3 bottom teeth and 2 top teeth, they just keep on coming! There has been biting on the boob and I’ve been saying “No” quite sternly but sometimes she just smiles or laughs, Daisy seems to think it’s funny when you say “No” and it’s SO hard to not smile or react. I really hope I can continue with the breastfeeding and the biting doesn’t get too painful. It’s not just the boob Daisy’s been biting, she’s bit my leg a few times too and also my shoulder whilst carrying her.

At 9 months I returned back to work part-time, it’s been hard for me to adjust back into the world of work but I’m more relaxed this time round knowing that Daisy is at home with my husband James and is well cared for, I no longer have to work around childcare which means everything is a lot more relaxed and we’ve got a great daily routine with Daisy and the boys.

The only down side to returning back to work has been Daisy’s afternoon breast feeds, the first day that I left her she took a bottle of formula from James fine but on the 2nd day she’d worked it out and refused point-blank. I’m persevering and hanging in there, if we’re going to cut this afternoon feed out then I need to stick to my guns and not give in to her on my days off when she demands my milk in the middle of the afternoon. The last few days at work have been a little uncomfortable in the boob department but this should settle down once by body adjusts, Friday afternoon at work was agony!

At around 8 months Daisy learnt how to wave and can say bye-bye and hello, she also says mama and dadda and has just recently started making these funny grunting noises, I think it’s her little way of communicating with us when she wants something. I love that she now holds her arms out to you when she wants to be picked up.

Daisy still wakes about 3-4 times through the night for a breast feed, I’m not sure whether it’s for comfort, thirsty or just habit. Daisy goes down to bed at around 6.30pm and has been in her routine for a couple of months now, she usually wakes up around 6.30/7.00am.

Daisy loves trying and eating solids. Right now, she is having solids in the morning, lunch time and for evening dinner. She is still eating a mix between purees and bite-sized foods. Her favorites are bite size pieces of cheese, bananas, strawberries, yogurts, biscotti and spaghetti bolognaise but she will literally eat anything! Also, Daisy’s just learned how to take her bib off, so the messy eater just got messier!

  • Grinding her new teeth together
  • Bath time
  • Bouncing and jumping up and down in her Jumperoo
  • Watching and petting Felix our cat (we’re working on the “gentle touches”)
  • Cheese and everything cheesy
  • Music – Daisy loves dancing and bopping away to music
  • Loves being outside
  • Swinging on the swings at the park
  • Banging on her high chair tray
  • Rolling all over the place
  • Twirly Woos, Teletubbies & Mr Tumble (I guess anything that begins with T)
  • Her brothers, she loves the attention she gets from them
  • Mobile phones and tablets – Daisy always makes a grab for these

  • Getting dressed
  • Having her nose wiped
  • Having her hair brushed
  • When you walk out of the room (Separation anxiety has begun)
  • Being in one place for too long
  • Wearing a bib, she pulls these straight off, even the ones that go over the head
  • Wearing hats, these get pulled off too

We’ve had to buy a new car seat this month, Daisy still fits in her Silver Cross Simplicity car seat but because it’s part of our travel system it was just getting too heavy to lift in and out of the car so we’ve brought a new one that now stays permanently in the car. Daisy is still in 6-9 month clothes, she’s quite petite for her age, I don’t know if it’s just because she’s a girl or just totally different to how her brothers were at this age, they were both chunky monkeys.

We’re so excited for the next few months, we can’t wait for the crawling, walking and talking to begin. Birthday preparations are well under way and we’re all really looking forward to marking the occasion, I can’t believe my baby will be ONE in 3 months time.

September Competition Wins

I don’t really know what happened to September, it just came and went, I think it flew by because of me returning back to work after 11 months of maternity leave. Time flies when you’re having fun and in my case too much fun whilst on my maternity.  They do say “all good things must come to an end”. On the plus side (yes there is a plus side) we are a couple of days away from October which means we are that little bit closer to Christmas. Most people dread the ‘C’ word but I just love it and I love the cosy evenings that autumn brings, the heating on, curtains closed and the candles lit.

When I look at what I won throughout September, I’m actually quite surprised, I didn’t win an awful lot but I didn’t really get much comping done throughout August with the little ones being off from school and nursery, not much comping gets done when you’re trying to entertain a seven year old, a 4 year old and a baby.

My first win of September arrived on the 13th of September by courier unexpectedly! I was returning home from picking up Charlie from nursery and was expecting a parcel, I was awaiting a delivery from Mothercare with my new car seat that I’d ordered for Daisy but arrived home to 2 large boxes instead of 1. I always get excited when I get parcels, I’m always happy when I see the postman too!

This competition was featured in the August edition of Compers News and was an email entry competition, I love the Kids Comps section of the magazine, I especially love winning prizes for my 3 little ones, I try to put away as much as I can for Christmas and birthdays.

My next win came a few days later and was from a competition that ran on Facebook with a company called Richard Burbidge, it was a simple like and comment entry and won me a £20 Amazon voucher, I’m currently still waiting for this to arrive, this is definitely a prize I’ll be saving for Christmas, this will come in so handy when I start my Christmas shopping, I absolutely love Amazon and love my Prime membership, this was definitely money well spent.

richard burbidge

On the exact same day I won another Facebook competition, I don’t think I’ve ever won 2 competitions in one day so was over the moon. It wasn’t a big win but sometimes it’s the smaller wins that keep you going and some of these small wins are just as good as the big ones. Indie Bay Snacks contacted me via Facebook to notify me that I’d won their Freebie Friday competition, it was a simple like and comment entry where you had to comment letting them know which flavour you’d love to try from their range, I can’t wait for this win to arrive, I’m looking forward to trying out their products.

My final win of September came in the form of an email, I was just going through my junk box clearing out all my junk emails when I came across an email with the subject line ‘Cheestrings & The Emoji Movie, my first thought was that it was going to be junk but to my surprise it was a winning email. I spotted this competition on a pack of Cheestrings I’d picked up for Alfie & Charlie’s packed lunch boxes. You can enter this one daily and just need to upload a photo of someone special who’s bursting with funny expressions, you need to create a fun image and to make your images funnier you can check out Cheestring packs for nutty noses, moustaches and more!

Below is Alfie and Charlie’s entry which won them an Emoji Movie Stickers Set.

I’ve finally managed to find myself a box of Victoria biscuits with the Lapland promotion, I popped in to my local CO-OP to pick up some bits and bobs and got a bit excited when I spotted their Christmas food isle, this is a purchase necessary competition and instant win. Unfortunately I didn’t win one of the family adventure days but if you don’t win on the instant win you do bag yourself an entry into their main prize draw to win a holiday to Lapland.

I’m going to end my September update by saying how impressed I am with all the freebies I’ve been receiving with my weekly online Asda grocery shop. Every week Asda have been sending me samples of products with my grocery shop, I’ve recently had Lenor fabric conditioner and Ariel wash powder samples which I enjoyed trying out. Below I’ve got samples of Lucozade orange to try, screen wipes and 5 packs of Dolmio cook in the oven sauces.

I hope September’s been lucky for you
