I’ve finally managed to complete a few of my ongoing cross stitch projects this year, I have to admit some of them have taken a few years but that’s only because I start them, put them down, start them, put them down and so on. I never seem to find the time to finish them, there’s never enough hours in the day.
I absolutely love cross stitching, it’s one of my favorite hobbies and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing and rewarding hobby. I was first introduced to cross stitch at the age of 10 when we did some cross stitching at primary school, I stitched a heron for my mum and still have it to this day! I’ve loved the hobby ever since. It’s very time-consuming but enjoyable at the same time. I love it when I finally manage to complete an ongoing project, it’s such a massive sense of achievement. You don’t have to chuck yourself in at the deep end, there are charts and kits for all levels even if you are a beginner.
For many years I’ve brought cross stitching magazines, they have some beautiful charts in their magazines. I’ve stitched many patterns over the years, a few of my favorites have been Tatty Ted, Peter Rabbit, Popcorn the bear and many more. My favorite magazine is The World of Cross Stitching, not only do you get some great charts but you get some great tips, fantastic competitions and great stories from other cross stitchers enjoying the same hobby. Over the years I have built up quite a collection of magazines and love keeping them for the charts.
My 7-year-old son Alfie is showing a keen interest in cross stitching and often sits with me in the evenings to lend a helping hand, he hasn’t quite got the hang of it yet and does struggle to find the holes in the Aida but with a bit of practice he’ll be well away and I love that he wants to learn sewing, there’s too much stigma in this day and age. Boys should be allowed to enjoy sewing and I’ll make sure my boys grow up knowing that it’s OK what ever your sex, in my eyes, there’s no such thing as a girls job or a boys job, we are all equal.
Below is my current project, I’m stitching a pattern out of one of my cross stitching magazines and is a cute Elliot & Buttons design (a cute little elephant for Daisy’s bedroom).
Below is another copy of The World Of Cross Stitching where I found Alfie’s birth sampler from, one day, hopefully soon, I’d like to stitch birth samplers for Charlie and Daisy.
Below are a few projects that I’ve managed to finish this year and a few that I’ve completed over the last few years.
If you’d love to get into Cross Stitching I’d recommend heading over to one of my favourite websites to get started.
